XP SP 2
More trouble than its worth?
Downloaded it yesterday and it prevented things from running properly, links on websites wouldnt open. Hotmail wouldnt work and could view videos.
Removed it and nothing would work! Reformatted, back to SP1 and everythings fine.
Anyone else had problems with it and no longer have it installed?

I would not run without it. Tests have also shown systems without it can be riddled with viruses within 30 secs of being online!!
Just a matter of configuring the security to suit your needs.

I have a few problems opening pages on a few banking sites, like www.ingdirect.co.uk for instance.
I know my pc is completely clean but I still cannot get access and just get a blank page

It's set to Internet.
I have tried it with the SP2 popup blocker turned off, av turned off and the nVidia Forceware firewall set to Low.
I don't understand how I can access other sites but not this one.

to be honest when sp2 was released it was riddled with bugs and would cause a lot of computers to crash. In fact it is documented that it caused some business a fair bit of downtime as they updated to sp2 without testing it with their systems etc.
Nowadays though, the only problems I have heard about it is with slightly dodgy copies of xp.
Before you start I am not saying yours is a dodgy copy, but it does happen.
I do agree though that it is probably down to the securiy settings, iirc it enables the windows firewall on as default and you may have to change some IE settings as well, but it was that long since mine was done that i cannot remember.

Make sure the security settings in IE itself are set to medium. The site you referred to is written in javascript. This may or may not be the problem. But I know that under certain settings IE disables viewing of Javascripts.

I upgraded with windows update on my laptop with XP pro and it went really slow and crashed regularly. I took it to the techies who completely restored it back to how it was with SP1 and it was fine. They then used an SP2 cd to upgrade it and it was fine.... infact performance improved.
