Cool HELP: Cannot log in to Windows

A mate borrowed my laptop and for some reason on entering my password i cannot enter windows.

The password is correct and he insists he didnt change the password.

After entering the password and hitting enter, Windows thinks for a while and then returns back to the users screen for password entry.

Is there any way to get back in??

I dont particularly at this stage want to format the PC as i have many documents in there.

Hope someone can help.

BL

What version of windows is it?

Does it not say you have entered the username or password incorrectly?

Its for Windows XP home.

After the password is entered it tried to log in, but nothing happens and returns to the password entry screen. The password is definitely correct.

I am trying to log into the administrator account. My mate says he did something and it started deleting things.

The password is definitely correct as it is not rejecting it. Just not going into windows

Hello

If you don't want to use the program suggested and you just want the data from the drive: you can buy a cable to plug the hard drive in to a desktop and then read the contents.

CTRL Shift and esc doesnt work.

Does the same thing when you enter safe mode. I get the administrator option and on selecting it, bounces back to the same screen without entering into windows

When you enter the password does it act as if it has accepted the password and is about to login. Then all of a sudden loops back to the screen you where just on?

If you know the Administrator login info ctrl - alt - delete on the welcome screen and enter the info there.

Sounds like you have a corrupt profile to me, but it's difficult to say until you find out whether or not you can login succesfully with another account.

Doesn't sound like a password issue, it would without a doubt pull you up on that before it attempted to load your profile.

Where abouts are you located there might be a ScoobyNet Geek in your area willing to pop round and have a butchers for you
