Windows XP Pro 64-bit question

Windows XP Pro 64-bit question
Hi,
I'm currently speccing out new harware for some workstations at work. We want to go 64-bit and until Vista comes out was looking at XP Pro 64-bit.
On the MS site it states:
'.....32-bit device drivers are not supported on Windows XP Professional x64 Edition.....'
which is fair enough.
My only concern is will 32-bit applications work ok in a 64-bit environment as all our current software is designed for XP/2000 32-bit?
Thanks

Note that you may have trouble installing any software that uses InstallShield for the install technology. That's 16-bit based, and will not work on the 64 bit version of XP, (I know this from bitter experience )...

It's more viable to install Windows XP Pro (32-bit) on a 64bit cpu'd puter at the moment, as there are hardly any apps out there yet that utilise 64bits.
In fact I dont see the point in XP Pro 64bit, as by the time 64bit apps are commonplace, everyone will probably be using Vista (also 64bit).

Most 32-bit stuff works just fine, even old stuff - I've run Dungeon keeper (1999) on my machine without issue. But there are only a couple of AVs, and only two firewalls (both useless) which will run.
Drivers are the main issue: you need to check that EVERYTHING has a 64-bit driver available. This is fine with gfx, sound etc, but wireless NICs are very poorly supported (I beleive that only one Netgear card has 64-bit drivers for instance), as is some more esoteric kit.
ATM there really is no reason to go 64-bit apart from wanting to be on the bleeding edge. The hardware will run 32-bit perfectly, so I'd stay there.
