Widescreen monitor resolution problem?

Widescreen monitor resolution problem?
Hi
We've just got a new monitor, it's an Acer AL1916W s. It tells me that it's 'plug and play' and by simply pressing a button it will set itself up...it hasn't!
It says that it's ideal resolution is 1440 x 900, our PC doesn't appear to have that setting, is there anything we can do?
At the moment everything is in the wrong aspect and generally not looking very good!
