Default KVM Recommendations

Afternoon/Evening all,

Here's the deal, I'm setting up my home office and I'm going to have a fair bit of kit and, as always, there isn't an over abundance of room, so a KVM would be nice.

It's got to be at least a four port KVM and it has to support USB equipped Apple Macintosh computers as well as USB/PS2 equiped PC's.

I understand Mac and PC keyboards are different, so it might not be possible to have a single KVM to control Macs and PC's, due to the differences.

Also, when it comes to PS2 I know it's possible to get male/male (or is it female/female) calbes, as I have some, but I've not seen similar USB cables (flat end to flat end, rather than small square to small square end), are there such things?

TIA

Having a think about this further...

If I have a standard KVM (PS/2 inputs and outputs), one assumes I could use the male/male cables I've got and on one end have an adaptor which is ps/2 female to usb male (I think such an adaptor exists, or am I mad?) and then plug that little chappy into the Mac, thus meaning I can get a cheapo PS/2 KVM without USB on it. Does that sound about right?

Hi mate,

My job is a full time pro magician.

I am working this week for a company who specialise in KVM, in fact I tak about it at their trade stands and get the prospects to watch my magic as i deliver the key usp's.

I would recommend checkoing out the brand: AVOCENT on the net. In fact I have the perfeck link for you at: http://www.avocent-europe.com/web/uk...meset_European

I never thought I would hear the Keyboard Video Mouse terms on this Scooby site.

All the best mate.

I've not used the Belkin OmniView with Mac's but they are on the supported list (along with PS2>USB cables). In a pure PC environment I've not had any complaints from customers.

i use omniview 8 port here too.

cables can work out a fair whack though, so watch out when ordering and shop about.

I've got a Belkin Soho KVM: http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProdu...FSohoSeries%2F

This works well with my laptop (USB), Mac (USB) and top desktop machines (both using PS/2 I think...) - switches audio, video, USB, the lot...

FYI I use a wireless PS/2 connected keyboard and mouse - which works fine with the Mac (Mini) and all of the PCs... no problems as the keys map across quite painlessly.
