Default PSU Recommendations

DOing things a bit backwards as i've already decided on one but I thought I'd ask anyway.
My choice....
Enermax Liberty 620W ELT620AWT ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU from overclockers..
My last two PSU's have been ANTEC's but after 2 failures in as many years It's time to try something else.

I want one as future proof as possible.
I was thinking of doing a see through case design this time so the modular individual cable management design is good as it will keep things tidy and the air more free flowing.

Thoughts..

Use this site to work out your power requirements: http://www.adecy.com/psu/
Enermax & also Globalwin are very good products, Antec can overstate their specs. Overclockers are a terrible company to deal with, try Aria.

I got an Enermax 600w and never had a problem with it. Running quite a bit of stuff off it too. Did have an Antec before that and that was OK too. When I built my new setup I bought all new stuff and the Enermax had 24pin connector over the 20pin Antec I have now kept as a spare for my kids PC's if I have a failure. I got a lot of my stuff from OcUK and had duff memory which took about a fortnight to replace. I had a faulty monitor from Aria too which took about a week to sort out, so up to you where you buy it from.

I stick to Enermax for my own rigs - and Hipers if £s are limited for other peoples.

Currently running a 600W SLI noisetaker and 470W enermax.

I consistantly post how terrible Overclockers are. They charge your credit card even if the goods are nto in stock, they hold up an entire order if 1 item is out of stock & they don't give ANY email address to be able to contact them. Instead you have a phone number to ring that can take weeks to get through to them. I got 2 SATA hard disks from them that were banging about in an oversized jiffy bag - no protection for the disks at all. I had to scream blue murder to get money back & then blue murder again to get the return carriage back, I'll bet some other poor bugger got my disks! Never ever deal with them!

Fuzz, cancel your order if you can!

I've never had a problem with them Nick (before now) My last Antec PSU went pop within the warrenty period, mailed them, got an RMA number and posted it back no problems at all. I got another one sent out to me at no cost and without quibble.

Looking through the receipts from them I have spent over £1700 in the last few years with them and this is thier first **** up.
I have heard terrible reports about them before, never experienced it though..

Andy (living and learning)

P.s I do like their website though, it's so easy to browse through and find the products you are after, other companies fall short in that department!

and in fact it's not really a **** up either, if they are out of stock, they are out of stock.
The annoyment comes into play when they cannot just "tell you how it is"..If it's going to be another week they put 1 week delay... instead of leaving it on the "1-3 day" marker.
It'll turn up eventually I'm sure.. (hoping lol)

Well it eventually turned up....
Nice bit of kit

All news is not good though...
Came home from work the other day to find the PC turned off.
Then found circuit breaker on the ring main tripped....
Further investigation revealed a rattling within the new PSU..
Bits of ceramic.
There pops another one

After refitting the CPU on the newer M/B, re building the system and reinstalling the O/S, it was stress tested with Prime 95 (overclocked 3200+) for 19hrs, 1. to burn in the new paste" and 2. to check the stability of the system...
Passed with flying colours,
So why should the PSU blow a week down the line, the pc was hardly working hard, the monitor was off and it was downloading a couple of torrents.

Oh.. not good.

Never tried the Liberty versions (as yet).. I guess you're always gonna get DOA components at some point, but a pain the a$$ that you were the unlucky one

They're great generally, but when they screw up they do it big time... I've spend *a lot* in the last year with them, to be fair only had a couple of issues, but one issue was handled very badly.

Anyhow re you Watt usage - don't think you messed it up chap - a 620W should be fine.. but I still reckon the Noisetaker (600) is the best bet, not these modula ones, I tried the Antec NeoPower once.. ended in tears....

Update for a couple of reasons.

First off Overclockers were perfect... brand new enermax liberty PSU arrived the other day, no questions asked...
It's been in the PC and running fine for a few days and I'm about to reinstall everything and make a clean sweep.
Been on a few other forums asking "best BIOS" settings and got a few links back....
One in particular was quite interesting !
