free paint package to view & print JPEG, GIF, BMP

Default free paint package to view & print JPEG, GIF, BMP

Can someone recommend a freeware paint package that wll add the ability to view and print JPEG, GIF, BMP images in WindowsXP ?

I've a friend who doesn't have paintshop pro or photoshop and cannot open or print images like the above.

Internet Explorer or Windows Imaging should work fine unless you wish to edit the pics

The built in XP preview can do TIF, JPEG, BMP and has a proper printing facility eith cropping and resizing and a thumbnail printing function.

what the heck is wrong with MS Paint that you can find in Start, Programs, Accessories? Or did I miss something obvious?

That only works with bmp format images. Not jpg, tga etc...

Paint will open Bmp, Jpg, Gif, Tiff, Png and Ico, not sure about tga

I stand corrected. It didn't last time I tried it, but that was probably a couple of years or more ago and it seems they have updated it since then

It's still rubbish though. You'd be better off using something like gimp if you want to do any sort of image manipulation.
