Angry Email address hijacked, help!!

Can anyone help with this please?
Spammers have hijacked my address and im getting 450 pluss 'mail delivery failed' msg's in my inbox per day! Stuff like bloody watches etc etc.
Ive got 3 good anti-spyware programs on my pc but they dont have anything to do with email.
I phoned my ISP who was some indian bird basicly reading from a script with her suggestions and was about as much help as a dose! I ended up telling her what the problem could be and possible sollutions.
Its driving me muckin fental!

Sounds like either a) you've picked up a trojan, or b) someone with you on their mailing list has picked one up and it is spoofing your addy.

If they're actually using your address to send things, change the password.
If they're putting your address as the return on spam, you'll maybe need to change the account.

As Meridian says, if they are spoofing your mail address then there is bugger all you can do about it other than set up your anti-virus and junk mail filters but you still have to download the mail!! might be worth having a word with your ISP and seeing if they can put a block on at the server - you may not be their only customer with the problem.

One trick I was told: set up a fake e-mail address or two in your address book, like "aaaa@aaaa.com". If you start getting messages like "mail could not be delivered to aaaa@aaaa.com" then you are infected.

It's someone sending out mail with the From: header set as your email address. There isn't much you can do about it since all the bounces will come from all the people they attempted to spam, so there's no single point they've come from. Also, lots of people think you spammed them. I once had 6000 of these over a couple of days.

I've had this before. As above, it's from forged "from" headers. All you can do really is sit it out. It will stop eventually. Spambayes soon figured out to junk the error messages that were coming to me.

John.
