Question Mini DV Camcorder to PC - Stuck

Decided it was about time to get to grips with this but have so far have not got very far.

I have a Sony DCR-PC3E MiniDV Camcorder which has (amongst others) an iLink (firewire) port. I have installed a firewire PCI card in my PC and device manager says all is well.

I then downloaded a trial version of Adobe Premier Elements and that's as far as I have got. Adobe says source is 'offline'

Any ideas?

Cheers

T

Does the camera have a communication or transfer mode ?

Make sure its set to that and that the camera is on.

There is no specific mode, but in the menu it displays 'Ready' or 'Not Ready' when you connect or disconnect the firewire cable to the camcorder.

According to the manual it should be a matter of plug and play with the camcorder in 'Player' mode and the hitting the 'Play' button. (Although manual only refers to a DV > DV connection to a VCR.

I think my cable and card is a 6 wire version as opposed to 4. Could this make a difference?

Cheers

have you tried loading Windows movie maker? (assuming you're running XP)

This may determine whether or not the problem is hardware or software related.....

Just a thought

Hmm.

Just got this from Sony

I've had issues with Firewire before in terms of a power-on procedure...... might be worth a look...
