Default Transfering files between two XP lappies

I've bought a crossover cable, do I just plug it into both, stand back to let it do it's own thing to set itself up, or will smoke & springs pour out from the sides ?

Idiot proof instructions geared towards a four year old much appreciated.

Just plug in the crossover cable and run the xp network wizard, one will be set as the main and the other will be throw an ip address, will take you around 5 mins to complete.

Also if using XP Service Pack 2 to switch off the firewall, as you will have a hard time seeing each other with it switched on.

does all this when the wizard is run, also sets rules in the firewall software, no need to turn off.
