Default Teething problems!!

I've just finished my Micro ATX build and managed to finally install XP.
I still have a couple of minor teething problems below.

1) When my screen settings are set to 1024x768, I get this "shimmering" effect around all the characters and icons. It disappears at the 800x600 setting. My graphics card is a PCI-Express Sapphire ATI RADEON X550 256Mb. It is brand new and the drivers are correctly installed. I never had any trouble with the 1024x768 setting on my much older spec PC. Any ideas on what the problem is?

2) My new MSI motherboard came with PC Alert 4 which is telling me that the CPU is running at 128 degrees celcius and the system temp is 129 degrees celcius. I immediately rebooted and checked the temp's seconds later in the BIOS. The CPU was steady at 53 degrees C and the system temp was 35 degrees C. The CPU is an AMD Athlon 64 3200+. The AMD cool n quiet feature doesn't raise the CPU fan speed until 55 degrees and was quiet happy at the slow setting. The PC is perfectly stable and I'm happy with the CPU. Is there any generic PC health software out there that I could use to monitor the CPU instead of PC Alert 4?

Cheers,

Craig.

I know a few people with msi boards they say pc alert is giving incorrect temps.
D/l mobo monitor And use that instead.

As for the gpx are you sure the drivers are compatible on athlon64 board?

Smurf2k,

I'll give mobo monitor a try. I pretty sure the graphics card drivers must be reasonally okay as the 800x600 setting is perfect, its just the next jump up to 1024x768 gives off a shimmering effect, very strange.

If its a new card it may be faulty, try it in another pc if you have access to one.

What sort of monitor are you using?
Have you tried other drivers?

What is the chipset on your motherboard? there is a problem at the moment with msi mainboards, one of the msi programmers put a hack in on the driver install disk and has since been sacked, basically its around disk that ends 70-75, run msconfig and see if there is a program running called slowcpu then untick it,

Took me a day to sort before msi admitted it had a major problem.if this is okay dowmload the latest 4-1 drivers from the website

DannyB, you're not wrong .

I've now set the screen setting to the next setting above 1024x768 which is 1124xsomething, can't remember the exact setting. It's perfect. For some reason it doesn't like the 1024x768 setting. I don't have the slowcpu program mentioned above.

Last teething problem....how do you disable the password setting so it doesn't ask me for a supervisors password on boot up.

Cheers,

Craig.
