'Super Duper' Memory really essential?
I'm going to be upgrading my motherboard and processor this week and now I'm considering what RAM to fit.
Currently I run 768mb of PC2100 DDR (3 sticks from different manufacturers) which to be fair has run absolutely fine.
The thing is things seem to have gone a bit wierd in the memory market since I last purchased and theres now products like Crucial Ballistix, OCZ premium, etc which are all a bit more expensive.
Now I do play a bit of CS:S and Battlefield2 but I'm by no means a 'serious' gamer and I've not really had major performance issues on my current system which is an Athlon XP 2200 running at 1800mhz with 768mb PC2100 DDR and a Radeon 9800 Pro 128mb DDR graphics card.
So do I pay through the nose for 'performance' memory or would something like OCZ's or Crucial's standard PC3200 offerings be adequate.
The new system will consist of a DFI Lanparty UT nforce3 motherboard with an athlon 3000 64bit processor.
Thx
David

Just upgraded by system to AMD64 3800+, A8nsli board and find my Kingston memory is working fine.
Obviously the dearer it is usually means it can run more agressive timing and can also be a bit more overclock friendly
I personally would go for the standard memory and buy a better processor

standard memory is fine as far as im concerned. the amount of memory is more important to me.
battlefiled 2 runs smoother with at leatst 1.3 gig if youare running high graphics settings
I recently upgraded from 1 gig to 2.

Performance memory is really for those of us who wish to squeeze the absolute maximum from a rig.
If you dont game much - its not for you.
Kingston, Crucial, Corsair and Twinmos are all fine.

The problem you have there is that you will soon find that 512mb won't be enough for the likes of BF2 and will need to add more which means upto four sticks af RAM. This is more likely to impede performance than having 2 x 512mb or 2 x 1024mb.
