See attached - don't know what it means but does suggest that AOL are a bit of a problem.

Does a router mean that someone else could access your Pc?

Bigjay,

What model did you buy? - I'm looking for an ADSL modem/router at the moment.

Any router will work fine, but the settings need to be played with, in accordance with AOL official settings as they are not just plug and go - just google for them.

AOL don't 'support' the router, meaning you can't get any help from them setting it up.

Try these:
Protocol :- PPPoA (PPP over ATM)
Multiplexing method: VC-BASED or VC-Mux
(On some routers the above 2 settings may be combined as "PPPoA VC-Mux".)
VPI = 0
VCI = 38
DSL Standard: G.dmt
Security Protocol: CHAP
user: "youraccount@aol.com" or "user@plusdsl.net" etc
password: "yourpassword"
