Ventrilo (voice com software) Problems - Need help
Hi ive just registerd,
My dad told me to come here if i needed IT help..
Basically im trying to set up a Ventrilo server from my Wireless laptop,
Im using a netgear adsl modem and router.
The problems i have found are that once ive started up the server i can personally connect using the IP 192.168.0.2 which is obviously my personal IP given from the router , not my external IP. Now i know my external Ip adress aswell, and i have given my friend it for him to use as the IP to connect to, but it doesn't seem to work. I have tried using port forwarding on both the router and modem setups to allow the port 3784 that it uses, to my IP (192.168.0.2) on my laptop. But still no luck..
Any help would be much appreciated.

Has he inputted the correct port and IP numbers.
Also does he have the same version of Ventrillo. They recently released a new update for both client and server.
Ventrillo servers are also fairly cheep to hire if you are going to use it regularly. Think we pay about £2 a month for a 10 slot one.
I can send you links to some companies that offer them if your interested.

Your ISP will probably have dynamic IP, ie. your external IP will change every couple of weeks or so.
Have you added a custom service in your router settings so the IP, and set the firewall rules to allow inbound services ?
