Default Has anyone managed to configure a USB Wifi adapter

To a laptop with built in wifi, no router, ad-hoc mode

I cant for the life of me get them to communicate

Any help appreciated

Yeah Lee, I have my PC downstairs networked with 2 more upstairs. The 2 upstairs share my printer and internet connection. I'm not an expert by any means - but I got em working! What's yer problem? Off to work shortly so might be better sending your issue to alyandtrev@hotmail.com Trev

I was under the impression you had to have a router for more than 2 connections, im trying to set up in ad-hoc, no router, laptop green lights on in taskbar, desktop doesnt

Have you tried temporarily disabling all firewalls including windows ? Are all machines on same workgroup and manually IP configured ?

yeah, tried that, i'll give it another go, give us an idea
laptop 192 168 0 5
desktop 192 168 0 6
and usual subnet

its as tho they are looking for an access point but as i say the laptop appears to go into connect mode (green indiactors in task bar) whereas the desktop doent do anything
