Notebook LCD screen on the way out?
I have a 3 year old Sony Vaio notebook and the LCD screen is getting very dim, so much so that I have to connect it to a monitor to see anything. The service centers are going to charge a fee just to diagnose the problem and it is not worth it if the screen needs to be replaced. Any ideas as to what could be the problem before I send it in? I got conflicting advices. One said if it is the backlight, then the whole screen need to be replaced and expensive. Others said probably the inverter is kaput and can be easily fixed.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Does sound like backlight issue. Not sure from make to make if screen has to be replaced.

You can certainly get back lights for Apple notebooks ($99USD) so I would imagine that Sony Vaio should not be a problem. Have a little eBay/Google, however you will have to be quite handy and skilled at disassembly/reassembly of dense electronic devices.
best of luck and report back to us
