open office is free!

If you want genuine MS Office, the 'Basic 2003 (OEM)' is about £130 but doesn't include Access, Publisher, Powerpoint of Frontpage.

2 options my good man.
1 is illegal and the other not.
1. buy a copy of office from ebay (usually a copy!!)
2. get an educational version. If you know someone who is a student/teacher they can get acopy for you for very little money. I think the educational version of office is around 90 notes compared to 300-400 quid.
good luck

Or if your employer is a big MS office user, then there might be a Home Use Programme for employees. Ask your IT Dept. I got a legal copy of MS Office 2003 pro for 30 Euros this way.

Some of the larger warehouse style retail places online have the latest Microsoft Works, which includes a full version of word now.

Even on amazon its £89 inc vat.
