Default Watching video clips and sounds.....help!

I`m pretty new to computers and need some help!. When I try to watch peoples video clips, listen to sounds etc it doesn`t work. For example, I have just been on scoobyworld website and tried to listen to the exhaust sounds. The skin pops up, and it starts playing, but is bitty, and broken sound. The same thing has happened when I have tried to watch video clips off this site and sidc. Am I supposed to download something, I am at a loss at what to do!

HELP!

Thanks, Alex.

Hi Alex.

First off, are you streaming the files down, say, over a 56K analogue line..? If so this will play AV files all bitty and broken up. If you _are_ on a 56K line then try saving the file(s) to your hard-drive first.

If you're on ADSL or work network then it might imply that your PC is running very, very slow (e.g. awful virus and spyware activity hogging all its resources) or there's another problem with the PC.

So, 56K line for starters..?

Jonty.

Okay. Although 56K lines aren't really adequate any more for multimedia and AV files, it's not a problem if you have patience. See what happens if you save the file to your hard-drive first (right mouse click over a link and 'save' normally) and then play it.

The other thing when streaming (i.e. playing portions of a file while it's still downloading) is that it might be all 'bitty' the first time but once cached into your computer's memory, it might play absolutely fine second time round. I'd vote for saving though, as streaming can be quite painful, as you're finding out.
