Default Need a new Unlimited Broadband Provider - Homecall and good?

As the title suggests, it is now time for me to change broadband provider. BT has just "upgraded" our package to the 2Mb service. Well that was nice of them since our old service was only 512Kb. And they are not charging anymore.

So why am I wanting to change??

Because the new "improved" service has a 15Gb monthly cap My monthly downloads are 30Gb+, with the same for uploads.

I see that Homecall seem to be offering a great deal. It includes free local and national calls which will be of good use to us. Has anyone uses them?
http://www.homecall.co.uk/1999broadband/Default.asp

Also, does anyone have other suggestions I should look into?

Hi-I have just become a distributor for this company-best thing i can say is here is a link to the website

http://www.utilitywarehouse.co.uk/st...f?exref=078510

this will give you all details of their broadband services-i am told from the top that they have no download limits on their broadband packages-which is very good as im in the process of swapping mine to them-also you will notice that they do cheap electric, gas, mobile phones( with free calls between mobiles and home phone) so they do many good deals.
Have a look see what you think-thank you
oh nearly forgot-if you come from another broadband provider and get the MAC code of them you will get 2 months free internet
Mark

any questions feel free to pm me

It certainly seems like a good idea. Not sure about having to use a Smart Box to divert calls.

It may be worth it as the 1Mb service plus the free calls through the day is not a lot more than the Homecall service. Homecall do not need a smart box though, which I guess will be a benefit.

I take it you need one smart box for each phone that is conencted in the house?

u can use a smart box to auto divert calls i would imagine as was case on a service i had many years ago that you just put smart box on ur main telephone point all rest of ur extensions can work of that one-they do sell phones with it already built in-i have only got all the leaflets etc explaining things today but i will have a read tonite of things and will be able to explain better in morning

the smart box is just for the home phone service not the broadband

Thanks I got the idea that the smart box is just for the phone calls. The new broadband service that I am comparing it against includes phone calls.

Have a good browse at http://www.adslguide.org.uk

FWIW I've been with Eclipse for 2 years. Monthly contract, static IP and excellent response times to any queries. Even moving house was painless.

That sounds like a pretty good deal. If the option is available I would prefer a faster connection. It is definately worth considering.

I need to make a decision by the end of this week ideally, so I'll have a chat with the other people that share the bill to see what they think

Hello

I would recommend Zen. They are not the cheapest, but they have just reduced their 2mb price to £34.99 and they do not have any caps. http://www.zenadsl.co.uk

What do you gain by paying the premium? Do they have good support when you need it etc?

Wow, that is really cheap. What you paid is even cheaper than what is on the web. Cannot match £90 for 12 months....

Hello

They just have continually fast speeds, with no real problems. I've been with them two years, and I don't know about support as I've never had to use it!

No linedrops during that time...

8mb connection with 500gb download limit a month, for 29.99.

400k upload too, with 33:1 contention ratio.

No newsgroups though, dont know if you use those?

Damn, not available in my area I can get their 2Mb connection, but they still want to charge the same 29.99. How is that a good deal . Seems strange they offer 8Mb and 2Mb for the same price.

Oh well, www.e7even.com is looking to be the best atm.

if your area isnt enabled then they use their service through BT rather than through themselves so the prices will be higher

UKOnline have their own 'cable and stuff' in some of the exchanges now. If you live near such an exchange you get a great BB service.

If not, ISP's have to use BT's exchanges

Looks like I will be going with them, so I will use your code. I'll let people know what happens.

I must say a big thank you to everyone that has helped with this. I've had many more responses than I thought I would get.

Unless you take out the 30 day support contract, costing £5 (effectively, extra £5 pm), support telephone calls are charged at £1 per min.

Or you can email them, assuming you are still connected!
