Default PS2 repair.

I'm getting the dreaded Disk Read Error on GT4. I have another PS2 so no withdrawl symptoms, but would like to have two in the house for mate racing. Has anyone done a repair before? Or, know anyone who does the repair. I've looked at new lasers but they seem to be £45.00 plus fitting hassles, might as well spend another few quid and buy a new one.

Hi Jack,

Have you tried the usual fiddling with the white notchy wheel for laser adjustment?

In case you haven't, details are available here.

I did it on a friends PS2 and it worked a lot better afterwards. Touch wood, mine has been OK since I got it a looooong time ago. In answer to your repair question though, have no idea, as I've not yet had to go down this route (thankfully )

White notchy wheel fiddling will be on the cards tonight. It's making a clicking noise now that I'm sure it didn't, will look for that as well. Still loads games other than GT4 no problem.

Give it a go, as long as you mark where the white wheel was initially, you can always put it back to how it was If it doesn't work, I'd just buy a new one given the price and the fact that you will get a warranty with it for peace of mind.
