usual uk spec ps2, what region dvd's do they play ? are they just a normal region 2 ? if so can they be remotely hacked ?

If you can get a copy of Region X (I got mine free on a magazine), you can use it to free up region checking. You put the disk in first, select your region, eject disk, put in film. No modifications to your PS2 necessary using this method.

In answer to your question, which I completely missed, they are region 2 fixed.
