Should deter most thievin' bastids but you could try...
Renaming SSID
Turning off SSID broadcasts
Configuring the router to accept only the MAC address of your lappy

HTH
Mark

PS No such thing as totally secure, sorry

yeah i agree... set only specific MAC addresses to connect to your network and i think that will be quite adequate.. after all firstly your wireless network wont run that far so only the closest neighbours will pick it up...

secondly... your neighbours wont be spending weeks trying to hack into your network just to steal your internet connection

thirdly... bare in mind the thought "do any of your neighbours know that much about networks??"

Sounds like you've got it pretty well set up.

I've got my airport base station setup with WPA Personal (WPA Shared Key in PC talk ), the SSID is not the default either. I think this will me more than enough for the apartment complex I live it, I don't think we've any hackers who are going to try and break it

Agree that setting to allow connections only from specific MAC addresses is also a good idea, just remember that you've set that when someone with a lappy or other machine needs to use the network. *someone* forgot about that and it took a while to realise why a laptop would not get access to the network

It is quite shocking how many people do not secure their network. I go to pick up Rose at the subway station and there are at least 5 - 10 unsecured wireless networks there, most of them using the default SSID. It's kind of handy as I can surf and check email whilst I wait for her lol
