Default iPod photo 60gb slow?

Hi folks,

Just bought myself a 60gb ipod photo and am generally very pleased with it. However, the transfer of files from the pc to the ipod seems very slow (I'm using the supplied usb 2 lead at the moment). The instructions say I should be able to transfer a whole cd in 10 seconds or so, but it's taking about 30 seconds per song!!!!

I've tried different usb2 ports, all high power, so I'm pretty sure that's not the cause of the problem. Ordered a firewire lead now to give it a go (and so I can connect it to my laptop), so it may be quicker with that, but I was wondering if any of you peeps had any ideas why it is so slow...

Thanks,
Iain

Any firewalls installed and running?

Some filewalls scan everyfile as they are accessed/moved or copied.

Yep, I've got panda installed, but disabling it makes no difference (already though of that one)...

Thanks,
Iain

With regards to your question, I'm not sure what could be causing that, you might find good feedback over at www.ipodlounge.com though. The FW should help I would think.

It could be that the stated speeed is for the firewire connected iPod, rather than USB.

I was transferring around 10GB using USB 1.0 on my 40GB iPod at xmas and although not totally speedy, it wasn't dog slow.

I echo Andy's comments, pop over to ipod lounge and see if they come up with any decent advice.
