Question Why won't my DVD burner work

No problems using 4x discs but when changing to 8x it's a no go. The burner is 16x so what is the problem.

What media are you using and have you checked for updated firmware?

My 16x Philips is a bit snotty with certain discs, even quality brands such as Ritek.

What is the make and model of the burner ? are you sure it is not 16x READ?... Is the media 8x, if its only 4x media, then in most cases you can only burn at 4x

AS Gooner suggested, check for BIOS updates.

Fully up to date. Using Verbatim 4x and same brand 8x. Have also used Mirror works fine on 4x but not 8x, baffled.
