Default ARgghhhhHh! GT4 doesn't work on my PS2

Hot damn and blast, etc!

My PS2 really won't play GT4. Tried 3 copies now... So I think it's the machine

Any clues as to where to get it repaired? I'm in Leeds.

I've seen a self help guide at ars technica - any clue as to whether this is worth trying? Sony helpfully say "clean the lens".

ARGGH!!!

Seriously, have you tried cleaning the lens? Not as silly as it sounds and a darn sight cheaper than getting it repaired...

Is it an early one? The lasers were notoriously sh*te on those. My brothers PS2 will only load stuff in the vertical orientation.

The other problem is the fan sucks in a load of dust and the DVD transport/laser aren't very well protected. You could try taking it apart and cleaning the laser lens with a cotton bud and a bit of isoproponol alcohol or similar.

Take it to bits and get some ethanol on a cotton bud in there You could also try adjusting the lens via the white clicky wheel thing. There's info on it all here.

You're not missing much though......

....apart from a superb driving game

I don't know if Sony still do it but a couple of years a go they would give you a refurbished PS2 delivered next day for £60, in exchange for your knackered one my refurb has lasted longer than the original!! although I'd swear they gave me a new one. Probably cheaper nowadays to buy a brand new one.

When is PS3 coming out, will it be November, keeping with the sony 5 year cycle??

When they give a release date for this country add a year for good measure, then anytime 6 months after that to iron out regionalization glitches.

You forgot to add 6 months for them to actually make the things (component shortages etc)...
