Problems with new PC bits
My dad has just upgraded his pc. Its now an Athlon 64 and a load of other goodies, but on a fresh install of windows it is BSoD'ing (for most of the time it was doing it IN setup). Error is IRQ_NOT_LESS_THAN_EQUAL_TO which MS seem to use for everything.
Tried my DDR 333 ram in it and it still did it. 2 of the times it has done it today were when changing maps and exiting halflife. Could it be the GFX card ram?
Any ideas???

Grrr. The bios has an option to change it to up to 2.90v but as soon as you do it pops back down to 2.60v.
Now Windows is dying as soon as the password box appears, with:
PFN_LIST_CORRUPT

Agree with meridian - normally memory.
But on other occasions - it can be that the heatsink isn't gelled with the processor properly, try going into bios and leave the harware monitor on for 10 minutes an see what temp you get - normally with stock fan - about 37 degrees when fitted properly.
What happens is that you get verious intermittent errors and lockup at installation and in windows as the temp approaches 70 degrees.

I thought about that too, as my dad was left to his own devices with putting the components in!
I'll check the temps again tonight, as when i popped into the bios to change the DRAM voltage I looked at the temps and it was just over 40.

Note: when you are looking at BIOS the CPU is actually running at about 90% load. This is because it needs an OS to pass an "Idle" instruction to the CPU to get it to throttle back. For that reason temps when in BIOS will be rather higher (up to 10oC) than when idling in Windows. I'd say anything under 55oC is normal in BIOS

I know u said its a fresh install but is there any piece of software installed that you think couldnt possibly be a problem, but could well be incompatible with XP?
I was caught out by this once on a fresh install. The cause, Blackice Defender software firewall 2.9. It would intermittently bsod until I removed it.
