WTF is the hash key on Apple keyboard?
This has got to be the dumbest question i've ever asked, but where's the 'hash' or 'square' key on an Apple Mac keyboard?
I'm doing an online course and it says "enter the hash key plus 69933" but i can't because I can't find the key on my keyboard.
Why do Apple have to go moving the @ and " keys around FFS, and the ~ key is in a different place too. But i still can't find the hash key.
And before you ask, yes i've found the 'Any' key.

It'd be nice if they could label it on the key like they managed to do for the € key FFS
Ta guys.
Yeah i'm mostly liking the iMac, very nice bit of kit. Just one problem, got some new RAM through from Crucial and it's still coming up as 2 * 512Mb modules rather than 2 * 1Gb modules.
I think i'm going to have to call Apple, but i really don't want to have to send it back. It took 3 weeks to arrive and i want to actually use it now.

The hash/number sign/pound (not as in GB pound) key is usually found as option/alt + 3 key on a mac keyboard. Why hidden? It's because it's a UK machine which has the £ symbol on shift + 3, pushing hash to option + 3. On my machine (US) it's the reverse, # is visible above the 3 key, and the £ symbol is nowhere to be seen, accessible by option + 3 though.
It's a confusing world isn't it
Happened to have a play with a Mac Mini @ Best Buy today. I'm very impressed indeed, so small when you see them in the metal.

funniest thing i have seen mac posted for ohh ages(well if you dont count my post about the new G5 Powerbook !!)
doing support, this was in the top ten list of questions alongside where is my right click, where is my documents and I'm buggered if i am going to dran a cd into the trash to eject it
in OS9 you had keycaps which was a nifty control panel that showed you what the keys did when you pressed the option, alt or apple key, but the company now charges for an osx version, so you have to either RTFM or ask on here.
Loved the comment about lifting the keyboard to find the hash
give us more questions like this please

Not to be too pedantic (I'm not that **** you see) but Keycaps was an Apple Desk Accessory under Pre Mac OS X systems, you might be thinking of the excellent Keyfinder application, which you can still run under classic. I have a copy and it is rather nifty.
If you want a free solution instead, and are using OS X then try this:
Go into System Preferences, then select 'International', then go to the 'input menu' tab and, from the list of options, select 'Keyboard viewer'. This will display a little keyboard, and you'll see when you press any of the modifier keys (fn, shift, control, option, or command) that it displays what character will be displayed when you press that key, plus the modifier (or without the modifier)
