What's the diference between the normal versions and the Student ones? I'm after it for my new laptop, but don't know whether to get Office for XP, of Office 2003 Student edition (somewhat cheaper). Any help greatly appreciated...

Or go for OpenOffice. It's free and unless you have MS specific requirements, it does all that ms office does. Opens ms docs, saves as ms docs should you need others to use the files.

AFAIK, the student edition is the same as the normal version but you need proof that you are a student when you come to buy it (or it might be part of the activation/registration process).

Also note that office 2003 is the later version of the two despite being named the other way round

A fair few £££ i think. Functionally, don't think there's any.

Don't know if it's still the case, but buying a student edion from MS meant you got a voucher, which you then had to send off to MS with proof of your status as a student (eg copy of your NUS card, letter from your department, etc), and then they sent you the disk(s).
