Default BT Broadband - dynamic IP address renewal ???

Got the above ISP

Got me a Netgear DG834G adsl/router..

Every 20 ish days, my router status seems to reset itself to show 0days 0 mins 0 secs

Does anyone know if BT 'refresh' the IP adresses ??

.... or do ALL isp's do this??

... or is my router up the spout ???

Or is this normal......

I don't experience any loss of conection or downtime...

Would like to understand it...........

Cheers

Phil

I'm on BT OpenWound, my connection isn't reset. In fact I've had the same IP address now for some months, 3 or 4 at least since last renewal.

I have the BT broadband that comes without email (Long Story - I pay for email seperate £1.50/mnth)..... it's about £26/27 month.......

It's NOT the £29.99 BT Yahoo Broadband.....

if that makes any difference.....

Cheers

Phil

Are you running the latest firmware on the Netgear? Usually your IP will be allocated via DHCP unless you specify/pay for a static IP (and your ISP offers it).

I've got the latest firmware, and do not pay for a static ip address.....

I'm curious as to WHY the router resets itself every 21 days or so.....

I have the version 2, but I've heard that people have their 'up time' on their routers MUCH over 30 days....

cheers

Could be anything from power outages/brownouts to problems with the DSLAM at the exchange requiring a reset to gremlins sneaking into your room and pushing the reset button Is it exactly 21 days or do you just notice it after a few weeks? No reports on http://www.adslguide.org.uk ?

One thing I have not done is confirm whether the IP address has ACTUALLY changed....

(Note to self - IP address Logged..... )

I'll monitor it and see if it does infact change !!!!

mmmhhhhhhhhhhh

Have BT broadband with router sitting at 50 days. Last downtime/reset was due to a power outage
