I have a similar problem.
Wanadoo broadband was working fine until recently, then when I connect with the modem (all fine) & try to access the internet through internet explorer (or the wanadoo icon) I get problems, just cannot connect to the internet.
thrown everything at it, AVG7, MS AntiSpyware, even the CoolWeb Shredder (scan says not on my PC anyway) but no joy, hence my question in another thread about the best spyware / virus software, but dont want to waste my time buying something that wont get rid of whatever is on my system.
Everytime I run MS AntiSpyware, SurfSidekick comes up as a problem, which it says it fixes, but is still there when I re-run.

Delete or rename or move the dialler file so it can't be accessed. Also to prevent spyware re-installing itself, switch off system restore (right click My Computer, select Properties, click the System Restore tab and check the box that says switch off system restore on all drives). You can always switch it back on again when you've purged all the spyware from your system.

most spyware/spam ****, 1st place to look is add/remove programs, Believe it or not but they have to comply with the law so give u the chance to remove, most people don't think of looking.
CWS (coolwebshredder) is also a handy prog to get, simple google "download cws removal" search should find it.

also look out for Coolwebshredder 2! New version....also Spybot, and many other progs, can lock your home page so viruses/trojans/BHOs can't change it - also you should be able to lock your Search pages etc too.
When running a lot of these progs u r best to do it in Safe Mode (Select Safe Mode with Networking so you can still get online) as a lot of them don't load and as such aren't protected by permissions (i.e. Windows won't let you delete the file as it is in use)
Also use online Virus checkers such as the one at www.symantec.com (click on the Security Response link) as these are right up to date and also can't be affected by anything on your machine.
And PLEASE turn System Restore off...it's a haven for all these programs!!
