Default Avi files onto a dvd

I have a load of avi files on my HD which I would like to put onto dvd for viewing on my dvd player. What programs do I need to convert the avi files to mpeg2 I believe. I tried before and it took 18 hrs to do an 80 minute file. There must be a simpler way. Any advice gratefully accepted.

are these .avi files from your camcorder , or files that you have found on the web??

either way you'll need a converter....... I use Nero Vision Express 3.....

Gives you quite a few 'basic' options to create menus and scenes.....

can take me anything upto 3hrs to encode approx 1 hr of camcorder stuf... (from memory)

Sure someone will suggest alternative software shortly...

alternatively ....... know anyone with a DVD recorder (under the TV) you can generally plug the camcorder in and record in real time...... can be quicker thaan your 18 hrs.......

Only thing is, you cannot make so many menus and things.....

If you're are local.. I got one.....
