That's great -- strange hacks for these machines already.
I wondered if Sony were going to block any kind of film playing that wasn't on a disk to stop this kind of thing. But obviously not, very good!

any chance of writable UMD's? would hopefully allow the higher resolution and to get a whole film on...

just trying that prog out now.... I turned a 350Mb Battlestar episode into 147Mb still at a very good quality for the screen size. That was all on QB4 setting 29fps.
Running that again on 15fps/ 384kbps as a low end to see now.
went down to 129Mb but the quality was a lot worse.
Not Bad for 40 mins
