Default Quick photoprinter advice pls

I know nothong of the difference between inkjet and laserjet and all that!

I need a photoprinter that takes a mem card and that my mother can use to print photos off from her Xmas present! Would like to spend no morethan £150.

Do you have to cut the pics out from the A4 sheet with scissors after printing??

What technology/what make would be best guys?

Thanks for saviong me some time!

What make is her Xmas present going to be, because depending on that you might not even need to remove the memory card from it to print.

Cool

If she is doing a lot of printing, she would be better off using someone like Jessops for printing. Home printing is very expensive, I only use it for things I want to print large, because that is cheaper. Ink for printers is more expensive than gold, ounce for ounce!

However, laser printers tend to be faster, and a lot more expensive than inkjets. The quality from inkjets will more than suffice, as long as you are not trying to print too big and your camera has a decent resolution.

You can print multiple pictures on one sheet, or you can buy 6 x 4 paper for borderless printing, depends on what you get.

Safe makes to stick with are Canon, Epson and HP.

I've recently replaced an old aging Epson photo printer with an HP Photsmart 7760. It has slots for printing directly off camera memory cards.

What you need to remember is the hardware itself is very cheap (mine cost about £90), but the manufacturers make money on the replacement catridges.

We have a colour laser here @ work. It's an Epson Acculaser and costs < £500. Quality is pretty good and it's fast. Here's the kicker though, it takes 4 catridges (3 colour, 1 black). Colours costs £85 each and the black is £35.

So, when you need to replace them they'll skin you up to £290.

Used to be that inkjet ink would run when wet, laserjet wouldn't. Is that now old hat?

And Diesel - don't you dare call me a luddite if you don't know the difference !

Diesel,

this month digital camera magazine has a review of 5 of the best personal photolabs. the epson comes in with 91% while the offering from HP was 87%. Cost per print i think sold it for the epson as you can buy packs of ink an cartridges that will do 100 6x4 prints for about £30. the HP cost per print was a bit hit and miss.

see http://www.dcmag.co.uk/news/article/mps/UAN/528/v/1/sp/

cheers

Thanks Sinky - looks like its uneconomic as you can get prints for half that cost and that's not even taking the paper into consideration. Although I guess it might be possible to refill the colour cartridges yourself as I already do with my B&W printer? Each cartridge now costs me less than a pound!
