HELP!!! I installed XP SP2 and my PC is doing strange things
I installed XP SP2 today and its done some really strange things first off I tried to upload some new music to my ipod but the pc won't even recognise the fact that its plugged in.
So then I checked device manager and its completely blank! nothing at all, empty....wtf?
Also when I click on the My Computer icon it takes about 3 minutes to display all the info?
I have unistalled SP2 and used the system restore point made by SP2 and its still the same
What can I do to get it back to normal? I would really like to get SP2 working correctly.
Help!!!!
Jake.
Win XP
MSI KT4 Ultra mobo
2200+ Athlon
Home Built Jobbie.

dep is data execution protection if youre back to SP1 it should now have vanished but just in case
right click my computer
properties
advanced
performance
then data execution protection
then select switch it off
idea of it is to make your system more secure from virus threats etc.
to check your disc controllers (and problems in general)
right click on my computer
properites
select hardware
then device magager
any exclamation marks means there is a problem

You should have SP2 installed now though. Very soon, (before xmas I think)Microsoft will stop releasing updates for SP1 and so if you want to keep your machine safe and up to date you'll need to have SP2 installed (future updates will only install onto sp2 machines)....
p.s. I know of ipod owners who have sp2 and they work together fine. I'd check to see if there are any updated drivers for your motherboard / usb etc available from your pc manufacturer....

I still haven't made this dreaded change, but must do at some point. Is there an FAQ for non-tecchies, that gives a basic list of things to expect to go wrong and how to avoid/fix them? I've got Norton AV, I heard that won't react well. Got ZAFree, also, but I didn't hear of problems with that.
Just can't be bothered to sit in front of the PC at home for 5 hours, without internet access and without the ability to get help, basically...

Easy steps to SP2.
1 - Have SP2 ready.
2 - Disconnect web connection.
3 - Switch off A/V protection.
4 - Install SP2.
5 - Reboot and start A/V protection.
6 - Re-connect web connection.
7 - Disable Windows Firewall if you have your own.
All done, basically what I did. I just had to update Nero with the latest update.
Mine has been working happily eversince.
