They assume people who are worthy not to be trapped on their site will know how to use the "Drop Down" on the back button so they can skip back to where they want!

mart360,

I have read your post three times, but still don't understand exactly what your problem is - when you used the 'Back' button to 'come back here' (SN?) what happened - 'page expired message' or something else?

He means the cheap tacky forwarding page or javascript that bounces you forward to the website again when you click the back button. Easily overcome, as I said, by using the drop down menu on the back button!

Don't all links open in a new window - so there is nowhere to "go back" to anyway - they do on my machine.

Ah! I see. With you now.

Well mart360 I can help you on this one as I am one of the IT types you want to maim

ajm has explained perfectly well how to get round the problem (excellent advice there old boy - there's more to you than just fishy stories isn't there? )

The reason they exist in the first place is for either tracking where you came from (referer tracking) or to prevent abuse of the poll (i.e. auto voting scripts). They maybe annoying to you, but unfortunately the Internet is part of the commercial world hence marketing and fraud (some say they are one and the same ) are no small part of it.

Regards,

tiggers.

Yikes I didn't know I was on your Christmas card list

If you are using a later version of IE and you have the toolbars switched on there will be a Back button (usually top left) - it has a circle with an arrow pointing to the left. Just to the right of the word back is a drop down arrow - clicking this allows you to go back to any of the last nine pages.

Other browsers have similar features.

HTH,

tiggers.
