Default Which DVD Burner

About time I got one so can finally clean off the mass of downloads on my hard drives.

Which do you guys recommend at present? The NEC dual layer seems to be everyones fave at the mo but do I really need dual layer?

All I want to do is copy large downloads to disc to free up the old hard drive and copy films.

Cheers,
Simon.

Regarding the Pioneer - if I buy one and I need to upgrade the firmware, how easy is it?

Last time I did mine, it was as simple as downloading the update and running it from Windows. Took seconds to do. Like any firmware upgrade there's a risk if you lost power or something happened during the update.

Nothing wrong with the Pioneer, just the nature of flash upgrading any hardware.

Simon.
Dabs will have shipped it with v1.06 firmware.
The drive will perform quite poorly on this release.

If it's a UK drive you get (DVR-108), you will get the firmware here:

http://www.pioneer.co.uk/uk/support_...are#fdvdwriter

If it's a Japanese drive (108DX), you'll need the Piodata firmware. Drop me an e-mail and i'll fire it over to you.

btw, it's v1.14 you should flash the drive with.

See my post above. Just download the file from the link SDB gave. Run the .exe from Windows and it does it in about 1 min no problems.
