Default Dvd writing problem

I've backed up *cough* a few movies now using a Pioneer 108 dvd writer with Pinnacle Instant copy. The 1st half of the film plays back perfectly but the 2nd half skips & freezes every 30 secs or so.

Any ideas why ?

what media you using???

Sometimes inferior quality disc's contribute to it

Does it skip on the PC, or just on your DVD player??

Sometimes certain DVD players cannot cope with certain compression

That's concurrent with poor quality media.

The Pioneer will recognise and burn the majority of discs in todays market but playback quality will vary greatly depending on the disc.

When a disc is speed tested after burning an image, many can 'spike' after 3gb, causing read issues. This would be about 1-1.5hours into a film.

If you follow any of the blank media discussions online, the Datawrite 'Yellow' has proven guilty of these symptoms lately (it was once the nations favourite).

Try a change of media. See what your mates are using and try them.

As a recommendation, I would try the new Ridisc 8x discs. They're now using the same dye formula as Verbatim and will burn at 12x no probs in a 108 with factory firmware (v1.06).

Thanks chaps,

I'm using Mirror Platinum Dvd+R 8x discs at present. I've checked and the film skips on both the Pc & my home player.

Are there any benefits in using dvd+ against dvd- discs ? oh & finally where do you guys recommend buying them from.

Thanks again

Chris

the only issues i know of with dvd - and + is some players and of course recorders dont like one or the other.. Although now most newer ones will take both. I normaly go for just R.. NOTE: im no dvd expert, but i do burn a hell of a lot

as for where to go... www.ebuyer.co.uk <<<< tried and tested Also www.bigpockets.co.uk << (good service but becareful what u buy.. REMEMBER u get what u pay for.. I got 100 dvd style coasters trying to save a few quid)

DVD-R has a higher compatibility in standalone DVD players. about 95%

DVD+R has approx 85% compatibility.

For a good quality +R disc, you're looking at paying approx 30% more than you would for the -r equivalent.

It has been suggested that DVD+R is more compatible in games consoles but this transpired to be a myth.

Only burn +r if you have to.

I have a Pioneer 108 as well & although I haven't burned any dvd's yet I have burned an audio cd using Nero 6 Reloaded at 24x from mp3's & on verifying the disc it found lots of errors although it plays fine & the errors are not audible

Is this an example of being picky about media?

on the disk front I would try http://www.diskdepot.co.uk
For customer service, guarantee and price I find them hard to beat.

http://www.diskdepot.co.uk/product_i...roducts_id=308 is my weapon of choice at the mo. 106 and 107 and not 1 faulty burn from a fair few of them !

Next time, stick 'scoobynet' in the comments box when you check-out, if we are running any promos on the forums we sponsor, you should get a freebie chucked in as we are all S'netters at DD
