Default modding a Playstation2 - whats the best solution now ?

Been ages since I got mine done, years in fact.

A mate wants his done but I've lost touch with the various options available.

Q: Is there still a solderless solution ? That would be ideal for him
Q: If he had to send it away (he's in Bristol) who will do it for him ?

It is now ILLEGAL for people to offer there services modding or chipping the PS2. If you want it done, either have to do it yourself (after sourcing a chip) or by going underground.

In addition to stevebt's comments above, it is not necessary to put a chip in the PS2 to play backups any more. All you need is a memory card and a friend with a little know-how

Hmmm doesn't seem to stop them doing it every weekend at the computer fair at Bowlers. They do it whilst you wait infront of everybody..!!!!

Do a search in Google for 'cogswap loader', 'memory card exploit' or 'PS2 independence'

I've used this method before and it works fine, but you will need someone modded to put the files onto the memory card for you ()

i think the o2 mod is legal to fit cos it contains no code
similar to the x box stuff

please note i am not offering chipping or chip supply as this would be illegal

So if my mate has an un-modded PS2 - could he put my backups onto his HDISK ?

you would have to use a modded ps2 to put the backups on the hard drive , as the PS2 does not play backups in unmodded form

sorry I was unaware as to how you transfer onto the hard disk - it could've been a mechanism which used a bespoke read / write routine from the hardloader, in which case it could cope with DVD-R ,etc...

The PS2 is an easier install, but of course, much less feature rich.
