Updating Windows XP
Good morning techies,
I'm popping home over the xmas break, and I'd quite like to update the old mans computer. It's got XP SP1 on it, and I doubt he's downloaded any of the normal XP updates, and he has been told NOT to put SP2 on the machine.
Question time. a) should I go to SP2? b) are all the updates that were released prior to SP2 built into SP2? If not, then is there somewhere where I can download the executables, burn them to CD, then install them on the machine. it's only got dial up, so sitting and waiting for the things to download (especially SP2) is not really an option.

As far as I can tell SP2 does include all previous updates, plus a few things that weren't issued as updates. I've just installed XP + SP2 from scratch on a machine and Windows Update says there are no further patches. (Yet...)
As for the horror stories about SP2, I can only say I've not seen anything, and I run some obtuse scientific software on XP, and it all works.
