Unhappy BT Broadband & PS2 Online

Hi all,
Iv just ordered bt broadband basic package it is 512k and it says that you cannot get PS2 online with this service, the next package up is also 512k but you can have PS2 online and 2 pc's can use the broadband, the only difference between my package and the one above that i can see is the modem, Basic-Voyager 105 Next one up- Voyager 205. So is there anyway that i can get online with the basic package? , ive looked for all info on the site but can find nothing. It also says that you cannot get a VOYAGER 205 ROUTER with the basic package. any ideas?

All help appreciated,

Subsy

Not fully aware of the facts for this, but PS2 uses ethernet adaptor. Should think if your adsl modem has any form of ethernet connection it would not be a problem.

I'm running 2 PC's and 2 PS2's off my Pipex 512k ASDL through a Netgear DG834G modem/router without any problems. Each PS2 plugs directly into the router through the PS2 network adaptor with RJ45 lead.

Take a look at www.playstation.com for more info.

Andy.

Thanks for your replies guys, i have a had a reply from bt,(i asked more or less the same question) and they replied with, :- "Unfortunately you will not be able to use your ps2 as the broadband basic only supples the 105 modem, and you would have to have a rooter which the 105 is not compatiable to use with the rooter". So could i buy a modem that would accept a rooter and would this let me use my ps2 online? p.s if this is all i need to do where could i get a cheap modem that would accept the rooter?

thanks in advance

Just buy a D-Link G604T or similar. This will act as a modem, router and wireless gateway in one unit. If you buy a wireless ethernet bridge you can network the PS2 anywhere in the house and will not be required to run cat5 cableb to it.

If you can, cancel the order with BT as they are rubbish and their customer service is beyond a joke. Go with Pipex, Zen, Firefly etc.

This is a good deal. The USR wireless bridge is brilliant and is the choice for many PS2 and Xbox gamers and usually retails around £60. So the wireless modem/router and the bridge for £117 is not to bad. They retail around £145 as seperates.

BT Broadband Basic customers will receive a different modem as your broadband is for a single connection and you will be supplied with a FREE BT Voyager 105 Modem, read this on their websit does this mean if i buy a different modem/router it still wont work or are they just putting us off cuz we havnt paid as much?

The wireless gateway will act as a modem and 4 port router in 1 unit. In addition to this you have a 54m wireless network. You simply plug the router into the phoneline, configure the router with your username and password and some configuration settings (These are supplied by BT Broadband) and enable wireless security (so people don't use your line) and your ready to go. You can then connect your PC and PS2 by either ethernet cable or with a wireless network card. If you are using wireless you will need to configure them with the wireless security keys that you programmed into the router before you will be able to connect.

It really not very difficult, the products will have instuctions that will guide you through the above. If you go wireless make sure you have security enabled.

Good luck
