Think I may attempt this. Computers not been completely happy recently, doesn't feel like its running at it's optimum.
So, any pointers to offer? Any liks that can give me a brief on how to to this?
Does it take long?

Not difficult, but always best to go for a clean install, which involves wiping the drive and starting again. YOU SHOULD MAKE BACK UP COPIES OF ALL DATA (documents, photos, music etc.) BEFORE STARTING as they will be deleted.

You will also have to reinstall all programs that you use (so you will need the media these came on), and reapply patches/service packs etc.

You *could* go for a dirty install (just installing XP over the existing copy - you would still need to reapply service packs etc, but other applications, docs etc. *should* remain intact (you should still backup just in case)) but I personally would not recommend going this route

Once you have decided which method to use, stick the original XP CD in the drive, reboot the PC (I'm assuming here your machine is set to boot from CD first - if not you will need to change the boot order in the BIOS) ans follow the prompts on screen.

Oh yeah the computer runs in Dual Channel Mode.

that's lowlevel hardware stuff.

The operating system has no effect on that.

 

I did 3 installs last night and still havent got my 2 x SATA 160's running as boot!

no its a gigbyte GA-7NNXP - total pile of pooh. - but yes it is NForce Ultra chipset.

I've found out what I need to do - its the boot.ini signature() entry in boot.ini is incorrect - I need something to dump the MBR of the mirror set so I get get the value correct.
