What's best, is the one you like the most having tried out a few in a good camera shop.

Questions about cameras come up all the time - try doing a search on my user ID and the words 'camera' or 'lens'.

Thumbs up Digi Cameras

Oregon Scientific Slim Metal Body 3MP Digital Camera & Cradle about £100 or so

Minolta G400 4.0 Mega Pixel Digital Camera w/ 3x Optical Zoom about £200 or so

The two cameras above are not to bad for the kinda of money u wanna spend
But as Andy said its down to personal choice, dont always be pushed into buying a camera just because some sales guy says so... Do some more research on the net and really look into what you want out of the camera...

Anywayz hope that helps a little

I have a FujiFinepix S7000 does me not a pocket camera but very good all the same.

If you look hard enough you might find the Sony DSC-P8 for that. 3MP, x3 optical zoom, supports memory sticks up to 1gb!!! The only downside I have with it is you can't use the digital zoom on the good quality settings, so if your at max zoom, you have to get closer. Only really a fault when doing wildlife shots, how close do you want to get to a 600lb stag???

I bought mine last year for £229 from Jessops.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, digital zoom is completely useless. It does exactly the same as cropping the finished picture and printing it bigger. You can achieve the same effect in Photoshop (or any other image manipulation tool) in seconds just by resizing, which also has the benefit that you can frame the subject carefully after the event.

Andy, I've come to get used to it, and now have to agree with you. The 1 thing I found it usefull for was using it a 'scope. I could find a potential pic, zoom in to check everything was ok, then back off the digital zoom and take the picture.

I bought a Minolta Dimage Z1 a month ago for £179 from Empire Direct.

It is excellent. I wanted good zoom and the ability to take a series of shots of my son playing football, or motorsport
It has 10 x optical zoom (plus 4 x digital zoom - not used!)
It also has a continuous setting for a series of shots.
Another feature which is brilliant is the ability to take 640 x 480 video, including sound at up to 30 fps.

I'm really pleased with the camera.

Got a Kodak 6490 two weeks ago for £209. it has 10x optical zoom and 4mp. I am very pleased with it so far. Very pleased!

Downside is only 16 mb memory but it takes MMC and SD cards. Bought one of the latter 256 mb for £25.

Point of note: If you have a Nokia6600 you can stick the MMC card from the phone into the camera and copy pics across. You can then e-mail them to your mates
