Advice on laptops required...
Need to buy a laptop for my new business venture but which one?
I have been recommended Dell or Toshiba as no1 choice's......does anyone have any other recommendations?
Been advised to steer clear or Time and Tiny due to very poor quality, modems locked into one ISP and even poorer customer service!!!
Any advise please.

loaded with money to burn, defo ibm thinkpad then
we use thinkpad in the office and i had a few blown system board. since it was still under warranty (about 2 years and 11 months!), ibm repaired it!
it was the same with my dad's thinkpad. he was travelling in the far east and the TFT screen went dead. with the international warranty, the local ibm repaired it! how cool was that!

Hello
I agree with the above. I've had a variety of IBM Thinkpads and they have all been really good. Due to cost cutting, we now have Dell's, which are okay but no-where near as good as the Thinkpads.
Steve.

Octobers issue of PC Pro has a good round up of inexpensive laptops from Acer, ACi, Benq, Carrera, Dell, Hi Grade, HP Compaq, IBM, Mesh, NEC, Rock and Watford. Might be worth getting a copy to browse though

I've had a Dell Inspiron 8200 for 2 years now and not had any bother with it all. Only thing I find with it is that the trackpad sometimes has a mind of it's own and button "clicks" without even touching it on occasion. Newer models are a lot more cosmetically pleasing and have more USB ports.
It has one of the P4 - M processors and can last about 90mins before it dies - but is a lot sooner if what you're doing is disc drive intensive.

If you can live with the silly name, the Alienware Area51m laptop is the dogs (pretty much the same as the top end Carrera or Rock laptops but cheaper as of a few weeks ago).
It's sold as a games laptop but don't let that put you off, if it plays games it'll run pretty much anything else nowadays.
