Angry A pop-up I can't get rid of.

Hi, computer experts, please can anyone help me? My computer is invaded at about 60 second intervals by the same pop-up, and I can't seem to stop it.

It seems to have url:http://680180.net/smsnew/popup2.htm

and AdAware doesn't block it, or clear it.
How the HELL can I put a stop to it??

Thanks to anyone with any ideas.

Spybot s&d (search & destroy)?

SpywareGuard?

as well as Ad-aware, these tend to keep me pop-up free

This one looks like a 'normal' pop up rather than Messenger. Apple's advice should cure it. If Spybot can't delete it straight away, it will ask you to reboot your PC. Spybot will then run before Windows is loaded and remove any dodgy software.

If it is Messenger, there's an even easier way to fix it - just use GRC's Shoot the Messenger - tiny file. Just download and run - simple as that.

Arr, yes I had this on another Computer recently.

Firstly, do as the chaps say and run Spybot S&D 1.3. Then remove any malware in the Tools > System Startup / BHOs / Active X parts. If it still there, I found the culprits sitting in \Windows\System32. If you arrange icons by modified and go to the end, you'll probably see something called IEEnhancer.dll or something, simply delete the file and reboot and it should all be gone.

Hope that works.

They are some popups that applications such as Spybot, Adaware (even professional), Spyhunter, Spyblaster will not detect or remove. I had one recently and I only found it by chance when I noticed its selflaunch, I ran a search on the net on the window Info noticed which detailed a remover.

Unhappy

Done all that: Spybot found 150 new items. Messenger service disabled, and the pop-up came up while I was typing this:

Alcazar

And twice more while I was checking it posted OK

I have had this with 2 users this week, its a real pain. Worse than a virus in my opinion, as it takes a while to find the files to delete.
A few of them are :
C:\WINDOWS\System32\AdUpdater.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\adupdmanager.xml
C:\WINDOWS\System32\data.xml
C:\WINDOWS\System32\IEEnhancer.dll
delete them
run ad-aware again
this may sort it, also the files sometimes drop into a different location

Scooby Roo - you could try running this program. It is essentially an anti-trojan program, but it does have the most comprehensive scanner I've seen. Do a full system scan and see if it turns up anything. It is free for 30 days. If and when you do find the offending program, download Spyware Guard. This runs in the background all the time. It takes very little resource, so it is well worth it.

Try going here http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/downloads.html
and downloading 'hijack this' - seems to work very well
