loads of popups - help
I'm getting loads of popups advertising all sorts of **** inlcuding smilies.
I don't have IE running and have shutdown msn - they seem to appear when the machine is idle and it's about 1 an hour.
something is running in the background somewhere ... anyone help ?
I'm running XP on BT broadband.
- mark.

Go to google and search for free popup blockers. NB. This might also prevent you from going to some websites, but you can disable and enable as pleased.
Also, to clear out your PC download ADWare top clean out unwanted crap.
You can check you registry as well
Start/Run
type regedit --- click OK
From the registry editor
Click
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
Software
Microsoft
Windows
Current version
Run
Clean up unwanted programs.
Good luck.

Do they say "Messenger Service" on them? If so, turn on the XP firewall, and stop and disable the Messenger service (Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services, Stop and then Disable "Messenger")

For the easiest way to stop them EVER! Goto www.grc.com and download and run the program Shoot The Messenger. Job done!
