Buying a new laptop
Any recommendations?
Must be relatively fast, Large hard disk, with Wireless or easily upgradeable, DVD,CDROM, 15' or above screen. less than £1500.
It is a replacement for my P3 600mhz Inspirion 4000.
I went to PC world and might like a 3.06 p4 HP but I'm not sure about buying from PC world (heard too many stories) where else could I get one?
Cheers for the help!
Andy

SUba, Thanks for the pointer.
Ebuyer is such a crap site to try and navigate!
So difficult to get product info, a huge range but so difficult to sift through the irrelevant stuff!

I will second the Dell outlet advice. You often have to wait a little while until the precise machine you want comes along but you can save a few quid and the Dell laptops are good machines. I have one, several people I know have one and I have never heard of any problems. They may not be at the absolute leading edge but they seem to be solid and reliable and the price is pretty reasonable.

I recently bought a Toshiba widescreen notebook from PCWorld and it was cheaper than DABS. If you can find what you are looking for at a price that suits you from PCWorld then there is no reason not to buy it there, and I know that better than anyone.

I buy and sell laptops all the time, and give 2 thumbs up to IBM Thinkpads. Very well built, top parts used too. Also Sony Vaio laptops have come down a lot in price and compete with the HP/Toshiba/Dell prices.
Depends what you use the laptop for. You need to decide if you want a Desktop replacement, that's hardly ever going to be lugged about, or something nice and small that you can chuck in a case and isn't going to weigh a ton.

Tiny......arrrhhhhhhhhhhh
Avoid these muppets like the............... - have heard far too many horror stories
Dell are about your best bet and are very good quality and s/have something that your are after in your price range (They shoudl also be far cheaper than PC World as they cut out the middle mans commission). Dell have had service issues in the past but this is predominantly behind them now... I have bought from Dell and am more than happy with the fast efficient service......

I have been speaking with the chap trying to fix my current machine and mentioned I had seen an attractive Vaio and he raised some worrying parts support issues with Sony machines.
I'll mainly use the machine between home and work so will carry it between there every day so I think I'll go down the Mobile processor/Centrino Route.
Thanks for the help guys

To be honest, given the choice beetween dell and sony, its dell everytime for CS.
Ive had to return/have repaired laptops by both and dell were way more efficient and helpfull than sony.
