Default XP Update

A neighbour asked me to look at their PC as they were having some probs with it.
After cleaning 113 infected files, installing a firewall and some up to date antivirus I went online to update XP (home). Unfortunately it appears they havent ever updated. There were 54MB of critical updates alone! They live in a village without broadband (as do I) is there any way of taking updates from my PC and transferring them (I use XP Pro) if not can I get updates on A CD?

Thanks for the reply but what I am after is a way to obtain 54MB of files without downloading them over a dial up link.

If you've used the Windows Update Catalog to manually download the updates to your PC then you can, but if you've let Windows Update download and install them automatically then I think you are in for a few hours of downloading!

you could order the security update cd from microsoft, its free . contains all the patches to feb 04. That should reduce the download time for the remaining patches from that date, get the cd here

As above (although be prepared to wait a couple of weeks before you receive it

Alternatively, I used to occasionally get a magazine called "Windows XP" (imaginatively ) - I *think* it was the official M$ one.

It used to be supplied each month with a CD containing all previous, and current XP updates which I assume is the sort of thing you're after? I'm not convinced it's still available unfortunately but if that sounds about right then let me know and I'll see if I can dig out an old CD for you - I think I have a couple lying about somewhere...

It may not bring you bang up to date but it'll significantly reduce that 54MB download on dialup

Thanks for the help and advice. I eventually ended up going around to a friend with broadband to download the required files but thanks anyway.
