Real Player won't work.
Real Player upgraded itself yesterday, but now I can't play anything through it? It won't even load the application.
Trying to open the files manaully through Explorer doesn't work either, any ideas?

That's probably a good thing, RealPlayer is a buggy piece of spyware masquerading as a media player.
Have a look for RealAlternative on the web, and try using that instead.

First check in the task manager that no copies of realplayer are running hidden and kill them if they are - or just reboot. If that doesn't sort it, you could try downloading RealPlayer 10 again and reinstalling, or uninstalling the one you have and then trying to install it again.
