Default Backup to DVD-R discs, How?

Is there any way of backing up to -R DVD's? If so what software do I need, preferably freeware. Will Nero 6 write to these discs?

I have downloaded InCD 4, but it is asking for DVD-RW media.

The drive I have is an NEC2500 running on a Windows XP system.

Thanks,
Dan

Default Should do

Assuming that your writer actually supports DVD-R. Some only support DVD+R.

Nero should be fine, though you may need to download the latest release if yours is a relatively new writer.

I use http://www.symantec.com/sabu/ghost/ghost_personal to back up (or image) my entire hard drive on to a DVD.
I can fit 10gb of compressed data on to a DVD, should be able to double that when double layer DVD's hit the shelves.

The NEC2500 supports both + and - formats.

Yes, Nero 6 will support this drive and burn dvd-r no problem.

The only reason I can think of that you would be prompted for a dvd-rw is if you were trying to burn the disk without closing it (multisession).

Yes, Nero 6 will write to these, that's what I've done. There are options to write as file format, or archive.

INCD4 is for packet writing, i.e it formats a DVDRW into a mini HDD so u can drag n drop files to it, or delete/add/overwrite the files on the DVDRW. You cant do this on a DVDR, u can only do multisessions or one off burns.

Nero6 is the mulitpurpose daddy. But there are sooooo many excellent tools for doing anything u want DVD wise as well.

Good choice of burner, I have one as well, I cant fault it I burn full DVDs in under 10mins @ 8X.

Why not use the backup facility in Nero 6...

works just as backup should do and spans disks if needed...
