Folder permissions in XP
Hi,
I want to have 2 people on an XP (Pro) machine but not able to see each others folders. In W2K you just set the permissions on the folder so this was possible. But in XP it seems that you can only do this if the folder(s) are in 'My Documents' or on the Desktop. Have I read the manual correctly?
If so, bum ...... AS I also want the indivduals folders on a seperate disk and and save the c: drive for the OS and apps. this is a pain. Can 'My Documents' be put on a 2nd disk? I mean in a real OS like UNIX/Linux you just set symbolic links and file permissions/ownerships etc ...

Re: right-clicking. Don't work unless it's 'My Docs' - you don't get the 'make it private' box.
Re: moving 'My Docs' article. Spot on - just what I was after - works a treat!
But why do Micro$oft see fit to change fundamentals from one OS to the next ... aarrrgghhh ...........................

Whilst we're on this subject of XP file sharing.
Is it possible to password protect the shared docs folder that's shared with a local workgroup? I'd rather only give access to certain users rather than all of them.
I know you could do this in previous versions but can't see how with XP.

Just read the words wot I wrote - let me re-phrase. I want two users (individual logins) on the same machine BUT not able to see the others files. With W2K you just set the ownership of the file. With XP it seems you can only restrict othesr from looking at the contents of 'My Docs'. Now I can put 'My Docs' on the 2nd disk I have I'm happy ...
So, I didn't want to share anything - quite the opposite ...

If you go into tools, folder options and disable the simple sharing option, think its the last on the list, then the security tab appears as it did in Windows 2000.
